#WeAreKNB Series: Mary Guiden

Table of contents

The "We are KNB" series gives you a peek behind the curtain to understand what makes our band of healthcare communications experts tick. We ask them about their motivations and goals as well as some personal questions.

This month we would like to highlight our Media Relations Manager Mary Guiden. Here are a few questions we asked her below:

  1. What made you gravitate towards KNB Communications?

The job description was very well written, which means a lot to me, as a writer. I was also drawn to the focus on health care and health tech clients since my work had really shifted in that realm during the pandemic.

  1. What do you think makes KNB different from other marketing and PR agencies?

While I’m only a few weeks into the job at KNB, I have been struck – in a very good way – by the collegiality, teamwork approach, and fun atmosphere. Leaders and my teammates all talk about how it’s “we” and not “I,” and it’s very refreshing.

  1. What are you most excited about in health care tech?

I’m excited to learn more about the latest digital therapeutics and technologies that our clients have created to improve health care for patients and clinicians. I can already see that there’s a supportive community in the HIT space, too, through things like a Friday Twitter chat.

  1. How would you describe the culture at KNB?

Collegial, fun, hard-working, supportive, and innovative.

  1. What's the best advice you've ever received?

That’s a great question. I would say some of the best advice I’ve received is to believe in yourself, even on the most challenging days. It’s so easy to doubt yourself or your skills and talents or to compare yourself with others.

  1. What's your favorite TV Show?

I always find it challenging to list just one favorite, but for now I will say “Somebody, Somewhere,” a new comedy-drama on HBO. It’s the first big show for Bridget Everett, a talented comedian, singer and actress and it is produced by the Duplass brothers. Bridget does cabaret shows in NYC and I found a YouTube video of her singing with Patti LuPone at one of those shows. As someone who enjoys musicals, that just blew my mind. It also speaks to Bridget’s talent.

  1. What is one interesting fact people do not know about you?

I am a former music critic, even though I have never heard of Cowpunk (H/T to my new co-worker, Chad).
